I dread the impact that changing seasons and environments has on my skin. My face is so sensitive. It’ll flare up on contact with even as much as a cheap fabric softener or too hot a room. My skin overreacts to EVERYTHING.
Trying to keep my skin under control is a nightmare, but when I manage to find a balance, I’m laughing. I can’t lie to you though, the good never normally lasts so I have to switch up my routines seasonally, or whenever my skin decides it wants to hate me.
When I knew I was travelling to Japan, the fear of flying isn’t 100% on how high in the sky I would be, but the cabin air con and environment for my face. True enough, it caused an insane level of breakouts for me by the time I got to the other side, but trust me, had I not taken some much needed preparation time prior to flying to garrison against even worse happenings, I would have been in serious discomfort (I just…break out in boils! No joke! Painful, painful, under the skin, SOMETIMES PURPLE, boils…Adult acne is horrid, but thankfully not ever present…).
Not sure you’re like me with this one, but I’ve always thought that I do a perfectly fine job of keeping my face clean, you know?
I wash my face with cleanser twice a day, and slap on a perfectly decent moisturiser, and away I go all fresh faced, feeling all good.
The other weekend though, I was very kindly introduced to a thing called an “Express Facial” at a relatively new and gorgeous looking branch of Origins in the centre of Cambridge.
I’ve only ever had one “facial” in my life, and I’m honestly not even sure it was a proper one. A lady just simply smushed my face around a little during a full body massage in a Jamaican spa once, so I didn’t really have any kind of idea what this treatment would entail, other than knowing it would of course be extremely relaxing, and be primarily focused on my facial area, with glorious smelling products all over the place.
On arrival for your Origins Spa treatment, like me, you’ll be lead into the centre room to sit around a truly glam centre piece of a wash basin. After getting comfy you’ll be asked about your skin type, any specific issues you want to tackle, and any sensitivities.
The incredibly lovely treatment lady will then whizz off around the room to gather your session’s treats, and stand them all out infront of you to give you a heads up on what order is best to use them, should you decide to take any home with you that day (trust me, you’ll want to).
My array of treatments were as follows:
PURE CREAM™ – To remove makeup entire.
RINSEABLE CLEANSER YOU CAN ALSO TISSUE OFF
NEVER A DULL MOMENT® – To exfoliate my skin.
SKIN-BRIGHTENING FACE POLISHER WITH FRUIT EXTRACTS
GINZING™ – To soothe and comfy up my under eyes.
REFRESHING EYE CREAM TO BRIGHTEN AND DEPUFF
OUT OF TROUBLE® – To balance my grumpy skin, ready for the demand of travel time.
10 MINUTE MASK TO RESCUE PROBLEM SKIN
HIGH POTENCY NIGHT-A-MINS™ – To lock moisture in my skin, and encourage repair.
MINERAL-ENRICHED RENEWAL CREAM
Not only that, but whilst my face mask was doing its thing, the ‘Spa Lady’ proceeded to give me a hand massage using the new:
PURIFYING CLEANSING BODY MASK WITH OOLONG BLACK TEA & CHAI SPICES
Hands down (err…ha..pun) the cleansing mask thing (The Oolong-La) one was one of my absolute favourite parts. Musky, tea smelling goodness all over my hands. You can put it ‘all over your anywhere’ actually, and it does come in two other versions – Matcha and Green Tea, and ‘Comforting’. Ritualtea range, it’s called. The exfoliating mask came in a squeezy tube, but there are also “mix up your own” face mask versions of these formulas which come in a powder for you to turn into a relaxing face gloop by adding water. They’re blooming lovely, and especially for these winter seasons.
The whole experience lasted around 20 minutes (because I talked…a lot), but here on the site you can see more of what’s offer for the time you get (yep, there’s more to choose from!).
You also leave with a whole bunch of samples from your chosen products, plus a little Origins favourites goody bag too! So generous. They might even let you put your makeup back on once you’ve had it all taken off for the facial, and are too scared to face the public looking like there’s a moon growing out the top of your neck (they do let you, promise).
This particular Origins Store that I hopped along to was:
