Mid to end of August is a big red marker on the fashion calendar, as the Spring/Summer to Autumn/Winter transition happens on the catwalks and rails.
From New York and London Fashion Week, to boutique designer stores, the big changeover is happening as fast as the nights threaten us that they’re drawing in, and the colder breeze tickles your nose of a morning.
Excitedly, a local designer store named Boudoir Femme in Cambridge held a new season launch in store yesterday evening (September 22nd) to celebrate a fresh turnaround of key pieces in knitwear, scarves, and more.
I headed over after work with Lloyd to enjoy a little flit through the hangers and a gentle socialise with Pippa, the owner, and some old friends from the Cambridge blogging ‘scene’.
"Boudoir Femme started out life as Vera Vintage Clothing, a stall, in a local antiques centre, selling beautiful, high quality vintage dresses and accessories from the 1920's onwards."
Owner Pippa started out her working life as a nurse then trainer and eventually marketer in the medical sector but always had a burning desire to work with fashion and clothing!
Inspired by a 1940s movie where the heroine of the film visited her local boutique, took a seat at the dressing table and had her every wish catered to by the ever present shop assistant the vision of Boudoir Femme a designer womens clothing boutique in the centre of Cambridge where a girl could purchase anything from lingerie to clothing, accessories and even perfume for that special night out, was born in July 2006!
The store instantly sang to me, and tugged on everything I love about boutique fashion, from chandeliers to fresh walls and exposed trails, with colour coordination on point.
It was great to instantly see such a wide range of pieces too, from cross body handbags to gorgeous hats, knitwear, and even nightwear and underwear (which was oh so cute, by the way).
Not only that, but there were some stunning pieces of jewellery on the counter too, along with perfumes and other luxurious accessories to cap off your new season look.
More on the shiny things later.
On arrival there were welcome drinks of Prosecco, fizzy water, and non alcoholic tasters, along with a huge warm smile from Pippa who was elegantly interacting with everyone throughout the night.
I must have circled the shop a total of 8-10 times, picking out key favourites, and gushing over colour schemes.
Grey, burgundy, black, mustard, sage – heaven.
The cuts and quality of all of the designer’s pieces were “oooo” worthy on touch, and everything just screamed luxury as well as practicality and style combined.
I made two purchases on the night, and no, one sadly wasn’t the mustard shirt…yet…however they were equally as swoon-worthy and gorgeous to boot.
To begin with, I picked up this incredible ring by Pernille Cordon. It’s a gold plated silver set, with a pure as the snow, white druzy stone seated neatly in the centre. It’s so perfect for the winter season ahead, and looks just like a nugget of thick ice, or snow. This particular one I have isn’t on the website at the moment, however here is a colour variant [LINK]
To compliment, I also picked up another ring by Louise Kragh. Once again this is a dainty, delicate, gold plated band, but with the sweetest tiny diamond set flush as can be in the centre. I adore it! I always look at it and instantly want to say “awww” for some reason, haha! Sadly this ring isn’t currently available on site, however you can browse Louise’s collections here [LINK].
Both rings are so elegant for all finger sizes, and I feel that they truly sit so well on my more slender digits.
Behind the counter were a limited number of goody bags set aside for happy shoppers, one of which I managed to get too.
Inside was a generous selection of samples, from Redken, Kiehls, Aromatherapy Associates, and an adorable "Little Black Book" for notes and doodles! In addition there's an utterly incredible coffee table photography magazine showcasing some of the beautiful garments available for the new season. I love everything about the photography inside. So high fashion, classic, tailored, and....ugh!! Perfect!!
So I woke up the morning after with my favourite pieces from the store firmly fixed in the front of my head, so there’s clearly a love blossomed somewhere…
Honestly though, it was truly lovely to see how passionate Pippa was about fashion and her creation that is the delightfully chic and stylist ‘Boudoir Femme’. I feel it too, Pippa! You’re fantastic.
I’ll be back for that shirt!
